The Make Shift Store
Studio Zafir a new addition to Zafir the t-shirt store that opened recently in Cairo. Studio Zafir is a design store and a platform for product, jewelry, and graphic designers to display and sell their products.
I was aproached to design the store itself, and the concept i followed was to give the space a "framing" feel for the products displayed in it and to boost the funkiness and freshness of each and every product.
I pained the store in a dark color floor to ceiling to take the customers into Zafir's bubble and taking them out of the hussle and busstle of busy Cairo into a cleaner and more colorful hussle and bussle.
All the shelves of the store were made out of 8 deep drawers the owners already had (except the ladder shelves and the circular display piece). The drawers were cut up into different shapes and sizes to create different looking display spaces out of them to fill the store, and wallpapered in Japanese newspaper and gave the rest of the wood bright florecent colors to exentuate the japanes-iness. Illustrations were drawn by Essam Abdallah to cover the unwanted defects of the worn out wood.
The Jewelry tree (one of my favorite pieces that i've worked on in the store), is all made of mosquito wire and secured on a paper roll.
All work was hand made by my brilliant assistant Ola Tawfic and myself.
